When Ben is given a pet hamster, he's underwhelmed: until the hamster (which he has already unfortunately named 'Stinky') turns out to be a genius - a genius  who helps him with his homework.

Ben's sudden improvement at school attracts the suspicion of his family - and the attention of his teacher, the horrible Beardy McCreedy. When Ben smuggles Stinky into school one day, for help with a test, the results are disastrous. But when Ben's house is burgled, Stinky can identify the culprits. And together, one boy and his hamster make a plan to trap the criminals and save the day.

Gossamer
by John Misto
Full Length Play, Drama, 1910s / WWI, 1970s
Cast: 4M, 3F

It began as an innocent game. In 1917, two young British girls experiment with a camera and capture images of themselves with dancing fairies. They are playing a joke – but no one is laughing.

Their photographs attract the attention of the two most famous men in the world – Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and Harry Houdini.

Here at last is proof that the spirit world exists. In an England devastated by World War I, these fairy photos offer hope that a link to “the other side” is possible and that millions of grieving families can “contact” their lost sons.

Now the girls, Elsie and Frances, find that their joke has backfired with terrifying consequences. Conan Doyle elevates them to the status of living saints while Harry Houdini is grimly determined to expose them as frauds. Soon all four are entangled in a fairy-spun web of gossamer, a web from which there is no escape.

What really happened at Cottingley Glen? Sixty years later an MI6 agent urgently needs to uncover the truth. However not all fairies are as kind as Tinker Bell, and he suddenly discovers that the bottom of the garden can be a dangerous place indeed.

Seven Little Australians (Stage Play)
Adapted by David Reeves
Full Length Play, Drama, Australian, 1900s
Cast: 12M, 14F

The new stage play adaptation of Ethel Turner's classic tale is now available to perform!

The timeless classic story of Seven Little Australians is now brought to life as a stage play for young and old, active or passive.

Ethel Turner's uniquely approachable tale is now adapted by David Reeves, creator of the much loved musical of the same name. It tells the story of a few months in the life of the Woolcot family.

Captain Woolcot, recently widowed, has remarried. And his young and beautiful new wife is not much older than his eldest daughter. She quickly provides a seventh mouth to feed.

Judy, the wild member of the Woolcot tribe fully lives up to her antics as in the book. The cast of this play shares the trials and triumphs of this truly Australian colonial family. Laugh, and cry!

It's as relevant today as it was when it first took Australia by storm more than a hundred years ago!

3/21/2019

Strictly Ballroom
Encore Theatre Company
15-30 March, 2019
At The Princess Theatre, Launceston
IMAGES by Ross Marsden

"outstanding production boasting high production values and outstanding talent"
"The ballroom scenes were stunning, vibrant and exciting, but the real power was evident in the Paso doble scene – Magnifico.  The palmas was extraordinary. The orchestra could not be faulted but the dancing, pared to just rhythm and, ultimately (in the final scene), to silence, exuded a raw power." - Stage Whispers (Anne Blythe Cooper)
